Lesvos, Greece

Last summer, I visited a Greek island which is located a few kilometers next to Turkey. This is a calm place where you can enjoy the typical villages and beaches. My holiday lasted for one week and I mostly enjoyed the food and beaches, which I will tell about. We stayed in the village of Petra, we rented a car and from here we visited a lot of difference places.

To be honest, there are no big differences talking about the beaches on Lesvos. The sand is fine but sadly not as smooth as I like. On the other hand, the water is amazing. It is perfect for snorkeling and the temperature is very comfortable.

Close by, the beaches of Petra and Anaxos where a perfect place to relax for a couple of hours, but most of the time we visited beaches which where a bit further.

From Petra it is a one hour drive to the village of Plomari. We left early and enjoyed the beach of Plomari until about 1 P.M. We heard something about a hidden church which wasn’t to far away so we asked someone how to get there. We ended up in Maria’s tabern were we first had lunch. From there a fisherman picked us up with his boat and brought us to the hidden church called Ekklisia Krifti. Here we enjoyed the clear waters, the picture speak for itself.

The other day we drove a bit to the beach of Skala Sikamineas. The beach itself was fine, but when we were finished relaxing we drove a while to another hidden gem. We had to go off road for this restaurant and we even saw a big green snake, sadly he was a bit to quick so I wasn’t able to make a picture. After driving for a while we arrived at Ligaria Paradise. Such an idyllic place where you can choose your own fresh octopus. The rest of the food also was amazing and the view was even better. Sadly for the owner, the place was a bit to hidden. Excluded us and the owner, there was nobody else.

Other nice beaches are Tarti beach, Skala Eresos and Sigri. The last one I have to mention because of a really nice fish restaurant, called Remezzo. Budget wise it is not typical Greek, but the taste was amazing. I definitely recommend this one.

If you really want to experience a typical Greek night you have to drive to a small mountain village called Stipsi. We had dinner in a restaurant called Chani. It was a bit hard to communicate with the waiters, because only one of them could speak English, but that is the way I like it. We ended up getting some random Greek food which the waiters recommended us, it was delicious. Normally you would not stop in this village, so make use of the fact that you read this.

A city where you will stop is Molyvos. The lights will guide you towards the centre and there are lots of restaurants and bars. There is not a lot of nightlife on Lesvos, but if you want to enjoy it, you have to give it a shot in Molyvos.

You may know that I am a fan of hiking and next to eating, drinking and laying on the beach I had to put on my hiking shoes and go for a walk. Because of the high temperatures I had to wake up at 5 A.M. From Petra we walked to Lafionas which is located in the mountains. The whole hike took us about 3 hours, the length was a bit more then 10 kilometers. The sunrise was beautiful.

All in all, a really nice trip with delicious food, nice beaches and some idyllic places.
