Till august, I only did some day hikes and it was time for something new. Together with a friend I decided to search for a multi-day hike. After some searching we ended up booking the Lasörling höhenweg. We booked via Bookatrekking, but next time we will do it ourselves. It is nice that the organization arranges everything, but it costs a bit more.
We first drove to a town called Sankt Andrä. We arrived in the late afternoon and relaxed a bit. Our first meal was a delicious wiener schnitzel and after dinner we went to our apartment. We were tired of our journey and decided to go to bed early because the day after was a big day! We woke up at 7, had some breakfast and drove to the endpoint of our hike. We parked our car at the place where we would pick it up five days later. From here we took a bus to the where it all started.
Our first day started in Hinterbichl (1329m) and we walked about 9,5 km to the first hut, the Clarahütte (2038m). The total duration of this first route was about 4 hours. Our first stop was a bit early, after half an hour we ran into the Islitzeralm where we had some delicious kaiserschmarrn. After charging the batteries, this was where it really started. Form here our telephones lost connection so this was the real wilderness. In the beginning we had to climb a lot and the whole route we walked next to the Isel river. There are a lot of wonderful waterfalls. After a while the trail became relatively flat and after some hours we reached the Clarahütte at 3 o’clock. We had lunch with some beers and we chilled a bit. At six we had dinner and we decided to go to bed not long after. We where lucky with a private room for the two of us.
The next day I woke up at five with the hope to spot some wildlife. Besides a big raptor that was to far away to see what species it was, there was nothing. At seven we had breakfast and one hour later we started our second day of hiking. This day started with a good climb which brough us inside the Höhe Tauern national park. The total length and ascend of the second day was about the same as the day before. After hiking for about 4 hours we spotted our first wildlife, a murmeltier came really close! From here it took us half an hour to reach our next hut, the Neue Reichenbergerhütte (2586m). This hut is located next to the Bödensee which created a beautiful sight. As the day before we chilled a bit, had some weizen beers and we had dinner. In the evening we went out to take a look at the stars, beautiful.
After a good night and breakfast we started our third day. The beginning of todays trail was pretty challenging. It was a steep climb to the highest point of our hike, which was about 2850 meters. After climbing and climbing we took the path downhill, I still don’t know what I prefer. This day brought us to the Bergerseehütte (2200m) and this route was, just like the two days before, a bit more then 10 kilometers. We reached the hut and played some boardgames. Until this day, this was our favorite hut.
On day four, we again started with a steep climb. From the hut we could see the mountain we had to climb but we couldn’t imagine that was the route, it didn’t look accessible at all. While climbing it was doable, but challenging. Today was the longest route, a bit more then 11,5 kilometers. After 2 hours we reached the lasörlinghütte where we had a lunchbreak. I took the tiroler grüstl, yummie. After recharging we continued our hike. Till this day we didn’t make any mistakes, but after reaching another top we found out that we walked the wrong direction. After seven hours, including the lunchbreak we reached our last hut, the Zupalseehütte (2340m), which was the best of all in our opinion. The food was delicious, probably because this hut was not that far away from the closest village. The next day was not that hard anymore, so we decided to stay up a bit later and enjoyed some beers with the owners of the hut, a very fun night.
The last day was a relaxing walk which took about 2,5 hours. There were some shepherds who were guiding two cows downhill. One of them was chill, but the other one tried to escape, and he did. He ran uphill and first I tried to help the shepherds and made some noise and stood in his path, but I don’t think he would have stopped so I didn’t risk my life and stepped aside. The cow ran all the way up so I had to do with the shepherds who had to go after the cow. Luckily we just continued our walk downhill and after a while we reached our car.
We booked an apartment about one hour from the parking spot in the village of Wald im Pinzgau. The apartment is called haus Grübl and I would recommend it! Here we went to a swimming pool and enjoyed the water. After spoiling our muscles we went out for some dinner, played some mini golf and went to bed. The next day we had breakfast and we started our journey back home.
This was an amazing experience. The huts were very nice and it had all you need. Most of the food was good but maybe that’s always after a challenging hike. I would totally recommend this trail, the wilderness really gives you the feeling that you are in another world.
